    I just bought the TP-Link Archer Txe72e with 5.3 BT and in Device on offer £49.99. In device manager after installing driver from the package CD it turns out to be a Mediatek MT7922 chipset. So far it's very stable. My previous wifi card was a Intel 7260 from Asus bought for a similar price in 2016, that was garbage, faulty, it crashes, self disables and blue screens, drops connections many times a day. 5ghz or vht mode it would disable itself forcing a reboot. The new card txe72e has steady fast link speed 585-887 mbps limited by our ISPs AC router.

    I’ve got a laptop that I can’t change the configuration of, however I need its outgoing traffic to originate from my home office, while I’m on the road. So I’d use a windows machine as an exit node in my home office. I also think of using a second laptop on windows as a subnet router. It connects via LAN to a 5G Router as its default gateway. I’d used a ASUS Wi-Fi Router to connect the Customer Laptop to via Wifi. The Wifi Router would use the subnet Router Laptop as the default gateway via a secondary LAN port connected by USB-C. If the setup would work as desired, all traffic should go from the Customer Laptop to the Wifi-Router to the subnet-Router-Laptop to the 5G Router and via VPN to the Exit Host on my home network (another Windows machine). So all outgoing traffic should be originating from my home network. That’s a lot SPOF.. but do you think this would work or do you have an idea for a simpler or better setup?

    • @MikeFaucher
      @MikeFaucher 2 дні тому

      Unfortunately I am not clear on the configuration you are trying to do. Installing a Tailscale on all your external clients to use one single internal machine (even an Apple TV) setup as both a subnet router and exit node should do the same.

    found out more info. seems for tplink their archer, deco and omada series wifi7 stuff might have MLO issues in regard to the samsung S24 Ultra. There is a beta firmware that may fix it, but i have no access to it to find out. But this issue was report as early as a few days to a week ago so it's probably still a problem right now. Even the EAP-773 which i ordered was explicitly mentioned having the issue for this phone model. Hi Mike, Great review, Thank you. Are you still attaching this unit to your NAS ? I wanted to do something similar to your setup so that I use it to host movies. I wanted to store high bitrate movies and I am worried that streaming over the wifi will not be successful and slow because of the usb connection between NAS and TR004. How was your experience? Did caching give better results? Planning to use Plex installed on the NAS (SSD volume) but sources from the TR004 Volumes. Cheers!

      Your issue will be more with wi-Fi than 10Gbps USB. The speed of the devices is enough for full res uncompressed files and around 2-3 times faster than Wi-Fi so it should not be an issue. I use mine for strictly backup. I have tested the unit before for streaming using ethernet and did not have any issues.

      Currently it is next to impossible to max out a 10Gbps connection on Wi-Fi so I doubt you will get there. That said, you will a very nice speed bump compared to current standards. Realistically, 10Gbps will only be achievable with ethernet. Even with the latest MLO features enabled in Wi-Fi 7, the "best" you can expect is half of that. Let me know what speeds you actually get.

    I probably wont get an answer to this, but Ill ask anyway. I have it set to hardware RAID1 with only two drives so I have the option to add two additional drives down the line. However, I would like to know if I add the two drives of the same size, will they automatically be configured to RAID1 or will it wipe out my existing array? This is extremely important!

    mike i bit the bullet and getting wifi7. for ap i went with tplink eap-773 for client i went with the samsung s24 ultra the eap has a 10g-tbase port, but i don't have a 10g tbase port switch. so i also had to get a sfp+ 10g-tbase module. for affordability it's still within range now, but you can get a wifi 6e ap or mesh for half the price, meaning for a 2pack mesh wifi 6e you can pay half the price of a single wifi 7 unit. also there are not many clients out there. the cheapest ones are the china smartphone brands. The cheapest western brand is the google pixel 8, but that doesn't have 320 MHz band. The samsung s24 Ultra which i am getting does. i also want to mention, the intel wifi7 cards do not work on amd systems. instead, you may want to use the qualcom chipsets e.g. like the msi wifi 7 pcie addon card (this has the qualcom chip) should work on amd systems. This is probably the cheapest way to add wifi 7 to a client device (e.g. desktop pc) If you want the best wifi 7 experience, the Asus ZenWiFi BQ16 Pro is it. Because it has the combination of AFC and MLO which are killer features (note: you of course need a wifi7 client device to benefir from this). The afc especially makes the range for the 6GHz supposedly similar to that of the 5GHz. without it, expect the 6GHz to be a much short range by comparison.

    Hi Mike, thanks for your video, I have done exactly as you describe in your video, what I wanted is to create a Guest network, I have Unifi AP, first created VLAN in Sophos, then created the DHCP server and a rule on the firewall that everything from the LAN that comes from VLAN traffic should go through the WAN, the problem I have is that no IP addresses are assigned, there is nothing on the logs on Sophos. I've searched online and can't find anything, I tried the same thing with Zyxel, Fortigate works perfectly. The problem is clearly Sophos no doubt about it but the question is why? The recommended way is to use an external device as failure can come from the device itself. Optionally, you can use snapshots to pool 2 and a full backup to external drive.

    Careful with thunderbolt 4 hubs from Anker. I have learned they have compatibility issues ie with new Apple products. I had to replace my HUB due to this issue as Anker will not deal with the problem. I think they may not support Apple for some strange reason.

      Once you log into to router and connect with the wireless netwrok, you should be able to change your wireless connection and go to your browser and visit any web page (might have to hit refresh a couple of times). The portal page should come up and you can agreen to the terms and it should then work. Hope that helps.

Lets see if I can convert the VDI to VMDK using VirtualBox tools. EDIT: I found another tutorial that uses the qcow image. Backups are incremental meaning only what you change after the initial backup. Sync will keep the same data on both devices.

      @@MikeFaucher My pleasure Mike. Longtime Apple Systems Engineer… I can think of some potentially cool Synology NAS processes that might be of interest to people..and potential You Tube videos. For example data sync / backup. rsync local files to the NAS, (instead of a Time Machine backup), which can be riddled with issues. Rsync is sweet once you get the command and flags right. Just one example of some practical processes that could be valuable to users of a NAS and uses of a NAS, it’s all about our data and managing it efficiently….

    Mike thanks, your video is helping, but what I need is directions on how to back up. The first drive 8 gig is for files like music and the second drive has to be the back up from the first. How do I implement that? grtz Jan (Netherlands)

    • @MikeFaucher
      @MikeFaucher Місяць тому

      If you set the drives up when you first get the device to be independent drives, you can do that with their backup or sync program. The best way, however, is to let it set up the raid and have full drive redundancy which is the default, and then back up to an external drive. Check out this video as it may help you (ua-cam.com/video/tP_QKtJ0BTo/v-deo.html)

      @@MikeFaucher Hi Mike, thanks for the link. Do I understand you right? I configured the NAS to raid1. So it automatically backs up the first drive to the second drive? That would be oké! How can I check that for sure. I can’t approach the second drive and have a look if it backed up allright?

    • @MikeFaucher
      @MikeFaucher Місяць тому

      @@janspel134 In RAID 1, it is not really a backup but a redundancy. It contains the same information all the time, and information is always duplicated, but you can not access the second drive directly. To tell the configuration, go into your storage manager, click on STORAGE, and then click on STORAGE POOL, and see what is says next to the info section next to RAID type. Typically, the storage capacity will be equal to one drive. Another words, 2 4T drives gives you only 4T of usable space..
